Ichinokura Himezen

Himezen was developed in 1988 by Ichinokura, a sake brewer based in Miyagi Prefecture. Created as a “new traditional” sake that would be approachable even for women in their 20s and 30s who were not familiar with sake, it was designed with a lower alcohol content of 8%. For more than 30 years since its release, it has been enjoyed by a wide range of generations.

Made with rice polished to 65%, Himezen has an extremely sweet profile, with a sake meter value ranging from -70 to -60. Its defining characteristic is the well-balanced combination of refreshing acidity and gentle sweetness. It can be enjoyed chilled or warmed, and its versatility is another major appeal. When mixed with soda, it becomes even more refreshing, and it also works well as a cocktail base. Its quality is well recognized, having won gold awards at competitions such as the Bishu Contest 2025 and the Omotenashi Selection 2023.

Available in sizes ranging from a compact 180ml can to a 1,800ml bottle, it is easy to carry for outdoor activities like camping. In addition to the original Himezen, the lineup includes four varieties: Himezen Ume (plum), Himezen Yuzu (with yuzu juice), and Himezen Soda. It is an ideal choice for those new to sake.
