Tomato Ramen from “Tomato no Sato Shinanoji” in Osaka
“Tomato no Sato Shinanoji” in Osaka is an unusual tomato ramen specialty restaurant.
The prices are a bit high, but the ingredients used are of great quality thanks to the craftsman-spirited owner. Other restaurants sell tomato ramen as well, but this restaurant is known as the pioneer of the dish and has many fans.
I’ve visited here before, but I remembered how much I loved the taste and came back!

There are often long queues outside around lunchtime.

The menu consists of just tomato ramen (hontenmen), rice, gyoza, and beer.

The pork used in the chashu is from a type of pig called Awa pork from Tokushima Prefecture. Apparently the pigs are fed wakame seaweed.
Ramen Packed with Vegetables!

The ramen is made with tomato, bok choy, celery, onion from Awaji Island, and pork.
The wafting aroma of garlic really stokes your appetite!

The soup is a shoyu (soy sauce) flavored tonkotsu (pork bone) base.
The pork bones are grilled before simmering, so the resulting broth has no off-smell nor greasiness.
I had expected the acidity from the tomato to be rather strong, but it was surprisingly mild. There was a clear flavor of garlic and spiciness of the togarashi pepper; you can’t find this delicious flavor at other restaurants!

The noodles used are straight thin noodles that mix in well with the soup.

It was so tasty and packed with vegetables!
I particularly enjoyed the aroma and crunch of the celery as a good accent!

After I finished the noodles, I added in rice.
Once the rice is mixed into the soup, the risotto is done!

The resulting risotto was super tasty! Be sure to try it yourself!

I tried the gyoza with the house-made yuzu ponzu sauce.
It was so good!
Since the gyoza are cooked with tonkotsu soup, even the crispy fried edges from the pan are delicious!

Once you try the tomato ramen and gyoza here, you’re sure to want to come back!
