With Takachiho Gorge and Aoshima, Miyazaki is blessed with beautiful natural scenery.
And that’s not all: there are also spots where you can feel the atmosphere of an old castle town, as well as power spots that served as settings for Japanese mythology.
If you’re sightseeing in Miyazaki, we highly recommend visiting both its stunning natural landscapes and these spiritual power spots.
Let’s introduce a carefully selected list of Miyazaki attractions with plenty to see.

What is Miyazaki Like?

Located in southeastern Kyushu, Miyazaki Prefecture has a beautiful coastline to the east and a range of majestic mountains to the west, including the Kyushu Mountains and the Kirishima mountain range.
With many places to enjoy spectacular natural views and a tropical vibe, plus plenty of resort facilities, it’s also popular as a resort destination where you can soak up that subtropical feeling.
Miyazaki is also filled with myths and legends, making it a great place to enjoy Japan’s history and culture.
The “Hyuga myths,” recorded in Japan’s oldest historical texts, the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, are set in Miyazaki Prefecture.
The Hyuga myths begin with the gods descending from the land of the gods to Takachiho.
In places like Takachiho and Aoshima—known as the birthplace of Japanese mythology—you can enjoy mystical scenery and atmosphere.
Another major draw is Miyazaki’s cuisine, which highlights great local ingredients.
Branded meats—beef, pork, and chicken—led by Miyazaki beef, are famous nationwide.
Mangoes grown in the warm climate are also well-known, and are a must-try when you visit Miyazaki.

Many events are held across the region, including plum and cherry blossom festivals.
If you’re going all the way to Miyazaki, why not visit during the season when plum and cherry blossoms—often considered symbols of Japan—are in full bloom?
