Kitayama Park
Known for its irises, this is a park rich in nature, surrounded by greenery and water.
Located in the western part of Tokyo, close to the border with Saitama, Higashimurayama City is known for its beautiful nature, with parks and green spaces scattered throughout the city. Among them, Kitayama Park is a lush park set against the backdrop of Sayama Hills and Mt.Hakkoku, and has been selected as one of the New 100 Views of Tokyo.
The park is also known as one of the premier spots for irises in the Kanto region. From early to mid-June, about 600 varieties, 8,000 plants, and 100,000 iris flowers bloom. The beautifully and delicately blooming irises, with their richly changing colors, are referred to as "magicians of color". The "Higashimurayama Iris Festival" is held to coincide with the best time to view the flowers, with concerts, stalls, and illuminations, attracting many visitors each year. The "Kitayama Otome" variety, which can only be seen in Kitayama Park, is a must-see.
In addition to irises, there are hydrangeas and lotus flowers, and in the fall, red spider lilies bloom, so you can enjoy the flowers of each season. You can also see many wild birds in the ponds and grasslands in the park, making it perfect for bird watching.
