Musashiseki Park

An oasis for wild birds that echo the scenic look of old-world Musashino.

Last update :

Located in Nerima, Tokyo, Musashiseki Park is a nature-rich park that’s home to the gourd-shaped Fujimi Pond and the walking paths that surround it.

In a previous life, Fujimi Pond was once a spring filled with reeds and was known by the name “Seki no Tamei”. Then in the Taisho era it was opened as a park called Wakamiya Yuen, complete with boats and play equipment. Today, the same pond now serves in aiding flood control for the neighboring Shakuji River that flows alongside the park. In the center you’ll find Nakanohashi bridge as it arches over the pond, and in the northeast area there’s a boat dock awaits. These hand-rowed boats offer the feel of old-world Japan at wallet-friendly fares, making them especially popular among families and couples.

Many know that this park is home to an abundance of different wild birds including water birds like kingfishers, tufted ducks, and little grebes, and forest birds like Japanese tits and long-tailed tits.

To top it all off, you can even hop in a boat for an up-close chance to see the wild birds that frequent the pond shores.
