During the Edo period (1603-1868), Honjin was a type of lodging used by daimyo and other high-ranking officials.
Observe the architectural culture of the Edo period inside this historic building, constructed over 150 years ago. In the display corner, appreciate the precious items that have been handed down from one generation to the next.
Toshizo Hijikata, the Vice-Commander of Shinsengumi, was raised in the Hino area. Within the grounds of Hino-shuku Honjin, there was a dojo where samurai acquired martial arts training.
Since a lot of items related to Shinsengumi dating from that time are on display, this has become a spot for many Shinsengumi fans to visit.
