Mount Takao boasts approximately 3 million climbers annually, a number considered the highest in the world. Despite its modest elevation of 599 meters, Mount Takao is blessed with a rich ecosystem, home to thousands of species of insects and around 1,600 species of plants. The TAKAO 599 MUSEUM aims to showcase the allure of Mount Takao and provide a free-entry venue for new forms of communication.

On the first floor, visitors are introduced to the plants and creatures inhabiting Mount Takao. The museum recreates the abundant nature through innovative exhibits such as beautiful acrylic resin specimens of plants, lifelike insect specimens fluttering as if alive, and a fusion of taxidermy animals and projection mapping. The second floor serves as a gallery space where lectures and workshops are held, fostering interaction between climbers and local residents. There are also sections dedicated to disseminating information about Mount Takao, including climbing routes and seasonal highlights, making it a convenient spot to visit before or after a hike.

For those seeking relaxation, there is a café offering drinks and light snacks, with tables and chairs made from materials sourced from the Tama region. Outside the museum, a green lawn area features benches inspired by the number 599 and a pond, providing an ideal space for children to play or families to enjoy a picnic.
