Katsushika Shibamata Tora-san Museum is a popular spot located within Shibamata Park about three minutes on foot past Shibamata Taishakuten.
This commemorative film museum pays homage to “Tora-san”, the wandering hero from movie series “The Otoko wa tsurai yo (It’s Tough Being a Man)”, while recreating the look and feel of 1960s Katsushika Shibamata and “Kurumaya”, the dango (Japanese sweet rice dumplings) shop where Futen no Tora-san returned after his adventures across Japan. This Kurumaya shop is the original set, moved here from its filming location. You can also find a 1/16th scale model of the shop, featuring a miniature Tora-san resting on the second floor.
Also on display is the old station building that brings back memories of Tora-san’s travels, the local train and the contents of Tora-san’s suitcase which he always carried around traveling.
In Japan, the world of “The Otoko wa tsurai yo (It’s Tough Being a Man)” is a nostalgic walk through the good old days that you can experience for yourself on your next visit to the museum.
