Since 1947, Shinjuku has served as a longstanding commuter hub and terminal throughway for goods and people. In these days, cheap ingredients like beef and pork “motsu” offals became a mainstay, which is why so many shops still serve yakitori and offal-based dishes to this day.
While there are many new establishments, many of the buildings are traditional row houses, separated by a single panel, and home to long-established businesses. This gives the area a retro vibe. It's a great place to enjoy both the flavors and the atmosphere.
