Ikoinarido
A mystical shrine that quietly nestles in the city center.
Ikoinarido is located on the south side of Ikosanhomyoji. One reaches the main hall of the shrine after walking through several Torii-gates.
Because it is an Inari shrine that enshrines foxes, the fox’s favorite food, fried tofu, is offered during worship.
Ikoinarido originates from around 800 AD, when Jikaku-Daishi spotted a ray of light in the forest of Zoshigaya whilst on pilgrimage here. When he went to the site, a beautiful figure of “Inari-Okami” appeared, which he named “Iko (majestic)-Inari-Daimyojin” because of its powerful glow, and built a temple to enshrine the being.
