Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
(Ijokaku style pavilion)
The only facility in Japan that introduces Sun Yat-sen, a Chinese revolutionary, politician, and philosopher.
This memorial hall displays valuable items related to Sun Yat-sen, a Chinese revolutionary, politician, and philosopher, such as handwritten calligraphy. The building was originally a villa owned by Wu Jintang, a wealthy merchant from the Kobe overseas Chinese community. It is also the oldest wood-frame concrete block building in Japan, and therefore designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
The three-story octagonal hall serves as a symbol of this building. The Western-style building also harmonizes beautifully with the Akashi Strait in the background. One of the highlights is also the luxurious interior and ceilings. From the exhibition inside, you can learn about the relationship between Kobe, Japan, and Sun Yat-sen, in addition to the life of Wu Jintang and the changes in the Ijokaku style pavilion.
The exhibit has explanations in English and Chinese (simplified), in addition to Japanese.
