I heard that Ranzan Valley in Saitama can rival Arashiyama in Kyoto, so I've always wanted to visit. This year, I finally made it! I caught the valley at the peak of autumn, and the maple leaves were absolutely stunning. It felt amazing to be so close to nature!

Ranzan Valley
The amazing sight for fall leaves, Arashiyama in Musashi.
Known as the sight for beautiful fall leaves, Ranzan Valley is a spectacular tapestry of rock walls, Tsuki River’s pure stream and greeneries.
When the first forestry professor in Japan, Seiroku Honda, visited here, he was impressed how the scenery resembled Arashiyama in Kyoto and said, “This is Arashiyama in Musashi.” The town was named Ranzan (spelled the same as Arashiyama) machi after his saying.
One of the highlights is a path from the observation platform to Akiko Yosano poem monument. The path goes through a tunnel of Japanese maple with the refreshing sound from the river. Around the Kansui Bridge, enjoy Japanese maple in a burning red color, reflected on the water.
Although Ranzan Valley is well-known for fall colors, the new green in spring is exhilarating. Listening to birds’ chirping and the sound of the rolling river and walking through the fresh green is an uplifting leisure. In summer, Ranzan Valley BBQ Area down the stream is a great place to play in the water and grill with friends and family.
It’s close enough to come from Tokyo. Leave the city and visit the rich nature in Ranzan Valley.
