Mt. Ibuki
The highest mountain in Shiga Prefecture and one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan.
With an elevation of about 1,377 meters, it is the highest mountain in Shiga Prefecture and one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. Its name was written in the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and Nihonshoki (The Chronicles of Japan) in ancient times, and it is also known as a historical mountain, appearing in the legend of Yamatotakerunomikoto. It is a popular spot for tourists because of the spectacular view of Lake Biwa from the top of the mountain.
Although the altitude is high, the parking lot at the 9th station can be reached by car, mountain bus, or taxi using the Ibukiyama Driveway. Even beginners can enjoy a relatively easy walk to the top of the mountain.
The top of the mountain is a natural flower garden and is designated as a national natural monument. A variety of flowers bloom from spring to autumn. From the Sky Terrace Ibukiyama, a tourist facility, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Biwa to the west and Mount Mitake to the east.
Recently, it has become a "sacred place for lovers" and young couples visit it as a power spot.
