This lovely soba shop, Hatsuhana Soba, was established in 1934 and is located at the foot of the Yumoto Bridge over the Hayakawa River. The name of the store comes from Katsugoro's wife who appears in the Kabuki play "Hakone Reikenki Shuru Vengeance".
"Natural farming yam soba," the specialty of the restaurant, is made in a unique way using only buckwheat flour, natural farming yam, and local eggs without adding any water.
The buckwheat flour is carefully selected according to the seasons, and their yams are the highest quality from organic farms.

You should first try the "Seiro-soba", which comes with soba noodles, grated yam and yakumi (condiments) for 1,300 yen. These firm and tight noodles, with a unique sweetness, go well with the grated yam.

Other popular dishes include "Teijo Soba" (1,000 yen), which is cold soba noodles topped with grated yam, and "Tempura Soba" (1,300 yen) with two large prawns on top.
Takeout is also available so you can enjoy Hatsuhana's soba at home.
