Yumochi Honpo, Chimoto Station Store,

A long-established shop offering freshly made sweets with the finest ingredients, including Hakone's famous "yumochi” delicacy.

Last update :

Chimoto is a Japanese confectionery store on the Hakone-Yumoto ekimae street. The main store has been in business for about 70 years on Taki-dori street Hakone-yumoto. The shop has been creating confectionary delicacies using as little food additives as possible and continuing to respect the flavor of the ingredients.

Their well-known sweet "Yumochi" is a rice cake made of softly kneaded white egg powder and egg whites, filled with finely chopped sweet bean jelly and a touch of yuzu citrus flavor. This is noted Kanagawa Prefecture sweet.

Many other unique local sweets are available, such as "Hachiri" and "Yogoro Shinobu". The "Hachiri" is a crisp wafer with sweet bean-jam filling that resembles the bells of the Hakone-Hachisato porters, which appears in the song "Hakone-Mago-uta" ("Hakone Horse Song"). The decorated three colored strings of red, purple and white make it so charming.

"Yogoro Shinobu" is a confectionery based on an incident that occurred at a teahouse in Hakone Yogoro Kanzaki when one of the famous Ako Ronin samurai soldiers of the Chushingura clan was on his way to take down the Kira Residence. The savory crust is shaped like a sword guard and is filled with sweet red bean paste. The shop also offers a wide variety of other sweets such as warabi mochi, green grass dumplings, manju, and seasonal sweets.

There is also a coffee shop inside the store. You can enjoy a set of their famous Japanese sweets and green tea, as well as other sweet treats such as oshiruko, anmitsu, and shaved ice.
There is also a small stall called "Oniwa-no-cha-ten" beside the store, where you can enjoy a set of Yumochi and tea or another refreshment. This is a good resting spot to have a cup of tea and a snack in between strolls.
