Yumochi at the Yumochi Honpo Chimoto Main store.

Moist and glutinous texture like clean skin after a bath. “Yumochi" is a popular souvenir of Hakone and has been selected as one of the best confections in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Last update :

Yumochi is the signature product of Chimoto, a Japanese confectionary store in Hakone-Yumoto that has been in business for over 70 years. This soft rice cake is made by kneading egg whites and glutinous flour from Japanese mochi rice, and filled with finely chopped Yokan (sweet bean jelly), which resembles rocks from the Hayakawa River that flows through Hakone.

Yumochi is also called "Japanese marshmallow" because of its softness, similar to one’s skin after soaking in a hot spring. Its delicate texture is delightfully fluffy and melts on the tongue making it quite addictive. It has been selected as one of the designated sweets of Kanagawa Prefecture.

It is available at the Ekimae-dori and Taki-dori main stores in Hakone-yumoto town, as well as at the Lusca Odawara store, and at some Takashimaya and Sogo department stores.
