What is Tempura?
Tempura is a dish where ingredients, such as seafood and vegetables, are dipped into a batter of flour, egg, and water, then fried in oil.

Ippoh has been in business for over 180 years since the end of the Edo period. It is one of Osaka's best-established tempura restaurants, attracting VIPs from home and abroad.
Ippoh is one of Osaka's best-established restaurants, located in Edobori, Nishi-ku, and has its roots in a tempura restaurant founded in 1850 (Kaei 3 ) by the first generation of an oil shop owner as a sideline.It has a history of more than 180 years spanning five generations. Throughout its long history, the restaurant has entertained VIPs from around the world as well as dignitaries from home and abroad.
The extraordinary experience at such a famous restaurant begins when you pass through the magnificent gate with its stone walls, mud walls, and tiled roof. At the entrance, you will be greeted by the proprietress and nakai-san (a staff member who is assigned to each guest or group and provides all-around service) , who naturally make us stand up straight, but there is no need to worry. The proprietress with a soft smile gently welcomes you, saying, "Ippoh's hospitality is to pursue the enjoyment of each guest without being overly concerned with tradition and formality."
From here on, each group will be exclusively led by a nakai-san . First, you will be taken to the waiting room, where the guest will be served tea at a custom-made table made of a single slab of Yakusugi cedar. After a short break, you will be finally taken to your guest room. You are ushered into a Japanese tatami room with a hori-gotatsu style floor, a completely private room used exclusively for each guest.
Here, the first half of the tempura kaiseki cuisine course, appetizers including Sakizuke (appetizer), Hassun (a dish consisting of several kinds of seasonal seafood and mountain produce arranged in small portions on a cedar square tray of about 24cm square ), and seasonal sashimi will be served.
Enjoy the taste of a long-established Ryotei while admiring the view of the garden and the furnishings of the room.
Afterwards, nakai-san will lead you again to another room. You will be taken to a private room with a counter and a deep fryer, where you will enjoy tempura fried in front of your eyes by the chef assigned to each room. The finest safflower oil is replaced by each guest, and the tempura made with the finest ingredients that are carefully selected for their seasonality and freshness. It is truly a masterpiece of this quality restaurant. Indulge in the happiness of tasting it on your mouth.
