Nara Prefecture Historical and Artistic Culture Complex
Opened in March 2022. Visitors can experience the diverse culture of Nara, the ancient capital of Japan.
Opened in March 2022, the complex consists of four buildings: the Restorations and Exhibition Wing, Artistic Culture Wing, Culture Exchange Wing, and the Information Wing, as well as an Outdoor Experience Zone. Visitors can experience a variety of culture that Nara is proud of, including history, art, food and agriculture.
A major highlight of the exhibition is the first public display in Japan of restoration work in four fields of cultural properties (Buddhist statues and other sculptures, paintings and calligraphy, historical buildings, and archaeological artifacts). The restoration of actual valuable cultural properties, not replicas for exhibition, by experts is a must-see even if one is not a history buff. The museum also offers other attractive contents, such as interactions with artists from Japan and abroad, and art programs for children.
What they all have in common is a style that goes beyond simply observing and listening to explanations to broaden intellectual curiosity and deepen learning through dialogue and interaction with experts and other participants. Through the three actions of "connect", "experience", and "feel", visitors can enjoy an intellectual experience that leads them to explore new questions and insights.
