yatuhasian・sisyuyakata
A facility where visitors can experience Kyoto culture and sweets with more than 20 hands-on activities, such as making Nama-Yatuhasi (fresh Yatuhasi-mochi).
A facility in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto, near Nishikyogoku Sports Park, where visitors can experience Kyoto culture and Kyoto sweets. They have a menu of more than 20 hands-on activities, including a free-entry Kyo-sisyu(Kyoto’s embroidery) museum and hands-on workshop of making Nama-Yatuhasi (fresh Yatuhasi-mochi)
We especially recommend the "Making Yatuhasi from Dough and Matcha (Green Tea) Experience among the various workshops. This is a standard program in which visitors make the famous Kyoto confectionery, Nama- Yatuhasi by hand from the dough. They can be made in three flavors: sweet bean paste, powdered green tea, and roasted chestnut. After completion, you can eat them with your own brewed Ousu (Matcha tea), which is a great value.
For a more authentic Yatuhasi making experience, we also recommend the "Genuine Lecture 'Extremely high-quality experience' - Mastering Nama Yatuhasi with Tsubuan (sweet bean paste)." By making not only the dough but also Anko (soybean paste), Kinako (soybean flour), and Nikkei (cinnamon) by hand from raw materials, you will feel as if you are a confectioner. Of course, the dedicated staff will give you a detailed lecture, so anyone can try it regardless of their knowledge or experience.
In addition to Nama-Yatuhasi, the hands-on activities menu also includes other unique Kyoto-related items such as Wasanbon (Japanese sugar), Nerikiri (sweet white bean paste with a coloring and delicate workmanship in the shape of plants and seasonal customs), Namafu-Manju, Tofu, and Shichimi (a spice made from seven spices). Choose according to your taste, schedule, and budget, and experience Kyoto's culture with all five senses.
