A popular wagashi shop in the shopping area near Gangouji Temple in Nara. From namagashi to higashi and seasonal wagashi, the shop is known for its wide array of authentic confections. It’s home is a renovated Machiya-style house, giving it a vintage feel that harks back to old-world Nara streetscapes.

While there are many popular items, the Miyoshino, made with top-grade, local Yoshino variety arrowroot flour, and smooth Tamba “koshian” red bean paste, is especially popular. You can also choose from the shops recommended wagashi confections, the steamed yokan and grilled kuzuyaki. On the second floor you’ll even find a café space serving coffee, matcha and fine green tea to enjoy with a fresh plate of wagashi. In the summer there’s even shaved ice with warabi-mochi in the center – a crowd favorite!

On the first floor you can reserve a counter seat and watch as each wagashi piece is made fresh before your eyes before enjoying an assortments of Kasiya’s finest sweets.
