Gotetsu Mukyoan
Serves local delicacies including Okukuji Shamo, komon food, Hitachi Beef.
The restaurant has been certified by the prefecture as a "Umaimon dokoro/excellent food place" for its safe and high-quality Ibaraki food. Since its establishment 40 years ago, they have consistently offered a wide range of local dishes loved by the people of Ibaraki Prefecture.
The best recommendation on the menu is Okukuji gamecock, a local specialty. The different cooking manners include grilled skewers, hot pot, oyakodon (chicken and egg bowl), and the unique liver patties. You can enjoy all the goodness of brand-name chicken, which are only special chickens raised for more than 100 days in the great nature of Okukuji, the meat distinguished by its perfect texture and full flavor. Try this and see the clear difference from standard broiled chicken.
Check out the “komon foods” which certified by the Mito Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The menu is based on Mitsukuni Tokugawa's philosophy of health and food, and has been rearranged in a modern style. The menu features a variety of dishes that are said to have been eaten by Mitsukuni, served in a course style at Gotetsu Mukyoan, including "hakunyuraku/white pudding," which is made with milk; "fukutsutsumi," which resemble Gyoza dumplings, and other dishes (reservations are required).
Other local delicacies include anglerfish, served as soon as the fishing season opens, and the shabu-shabu hot pot with Hitachi beef.
