Naruto City Awa Odori, Naruto Summer Festival
A huge summer event before Awa Odori which is danced all over Tokushima Prefecture. Don’t miss the Naruto Summer Festival, held two days prior.

Awa Odori, Tokushima’s summer tradition internationally known, has a 400-year history. In August every year, the dance is performed all over the prefecture. The first is Naruto City Awa Odori from August 9 through the 11 held mainly at the center of Naruto City.
Dance performances take place throughout the city, with the paid East Stage (Higashi Enbujo) offering an especially powerful experience—spectators can watch the dynamic Awa Odori up close from an 80-meter-long tiered seating area. The local Ren (groups) and Japan’s largest, Tokushima Awa Odori Ren will perform. You can join Niwaka Ren (Ad hoc group). Not only watchers but also impromptu dancers in the whole city will be in the fever.
Two days before the “Naruto City Awa Odori,” the Naruto Summer Festival takes place, featuring stage performances, market stalls, and a fireworks display.
