A 300m-long promenade was set up along the east side of national highway route 9 so visitors can enjoy the sunset over Lake Shinji, one of Japan's Top 100 Sunset Views. Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport assigned the location as the Parking Lot to Capture the Sunset (Torupa) and people love to take a snap here.

With the terrace and step benches, it is a great place to watch the lake in crimson color. You can see Yomegashima Island floating in the lake right before you. Sodeshi Jizo statues stand between the parking lot and the Kishi Park. Take their shot in the sunset.

After the sun goes down, inns and hotels along the lake turn on their lights for a great night view. The shrine gate at Yomega Island is lit up (Sat, Sun and holidays between April and late November) and you can enjoy the fantastic night view along with the sunset.

In the parking lot on the opposite side of the road, the elevator will take you to the underground road with a display of the info of sunset spot and photos in season.

  • I went to a restaurant near Aika Station that specializes in eel rice. I tried both the wild eel for JPY 3,200 and the farmed eel for JPY 1,800. Honestly, I couldn't really tell the difference in texture—they were both delicious.

  • The sunset over Lake Shinji is absolutely beautiful.
Really left a strong impression on me.
