Takeo Hot Spring
A bathing in soft hot water with a history of 1300 years.
The hot spring with a history of 1300 years, this name was found in “the Hizen-Koku Fudoki (an ancient report on the Hizen area’s culture)” compiled in the Nara period. The origin is that Empress Jingu, the legendary Japanese Empress, struck this point with her pike and hot water gushed out on the way from the war in Korea.
The tower gate is a landmark in this area gathered with hotels and the spa for a day-trip use reminds you of “the Ryugu Castle (a famous castle appearing in the Japanese fairy tale titled with Momotaro)”. This gate was designed in 1915 by Kingo Tatsuno who designed the Tokyo station and was from Karatsu-city, Saga prefecture. The three spas for a day-trip use are located when you go through. Tonosamayu was built as a private bath for the lord of Nabeshima in the middle of the Edo period. Feel like a lord taking a magnificent all-marble bath. Furthermore, enjoy bathing in the public bathhouses, Motoyu and Horaiyu, and Saginoyu having open-air spa and sauna facilities.
Colorless and transparent water in Takeo is an alkaline simple spring and soft water. It is said to have an effect on fatigue recovery. You can enjoy the same atmosphere that famous historical people did, for example, Musashi Miyamoto and Philipp Franz von Siebold .
