TAKEZASADO
Paper stationery and sundries with modern designs that utilize traditional woodblock printing techniques are popular.
The shop can be seen after walking down the stone-paved alley, marked by the elegant latticework and the noren curtain with the words "Mokuhanga (woodblock print)" on it.
It is a kyomachiya townhouse with a store on the first floor and a workshop on the second floor, and sells woodblock prints and other woodblock print sundries.
Takenaka Mokuhan, a long-established woodblock printing company established in 1891, is the company behind this shop.
Kenji Takenaka, a fifth-generation printer, opened Takezasado, a store where he can directly sell original works and paper stationery created by his craftsmen.
The shop has gained many fans, especially among women, thanks to the fusion of traditional and modern designs created by Ms. Harada, a female craftsman who is a sixth-generation printer.
The quality of the items, which showcase the skills of the woodblock printmakers, engravers, and printers, is second to none.
Colorful woodblock print items are lined up in a tatami-mat room in an old machiya townhouse.
The lineup ranges from paper products, such as pochi-bukuro (small envelopes), book covers, and letter sets, to miscellaneous goods such as handkerchiefs, kitchen cloths, and furoshiki (wrapping cloths).
There are also woodblock prints in frames that are perfect for home decor.
Around the end of the year, they offer a hands-on production class for making woodblock print New Year's cards, so check it out if you are interested.
