Zezekan Pocchiri Kyoto

Located in Kyoto’s Muromachi district, once a thriving center for kimono wholesalers, Zezekan Pocchiri is a renowned restaurant specializing in authentic Beijing cuisine. The building, originally a kimono merchant’s townhouse built in the early Showa period, has been beautifully renovated. Stepping through its Western-style entrance reveals a traditional Kyoto machiya interior, creating a uniquely atmospheric setting. The restaurant is also famous for its “Shimidare Butaman” (juicy pork buns), sold exclusively during the four days of the Gion Festival’s Yoiyama celebrations, which draw long lines of eager customers every year.

The restaurant’s signature dishes are shark fin and Peking duck. For lunch, a popular choice is the “Shark Fin Beauty Set”, which includes nine small appetizer dishes, a choice of shark fin noodles or rice, and dessert. Dinner features four different course menus, offering delicacies such as braised whole shark fin, kiln-roasted Peking duck, and soft-shelled turtle porridge. Guests can also order à la carte.
Seating options include tables overlooking a lush courtyard, spacious banquet halls, and a variety of private rooms in different sizes, making it suitable for everything from casual meals to special gatherings.
