Tawaraya candy "Tawarakko" and "Amenko"

"Tawarakko" and "Amenko" are easy-to-eat granulated versions of the signature product "Jiro-ame".

Last update :

Founded in the first year of Tempo 1830, this long-established candy shop has a history of over 190 years. Made only from domestic rice, barley, and water, the candy is highly nutritious and has long been popular as a natural food to restore strength to the sick and promote health.

Among them, the best souvenirs are "Tawarakko," made from "Okoshi Ame" (its signature product), which is made by boiling down "Jiro-ame" to remove the water content, into hard granules for easy licking, and "Amenko," which is kneaded and made into granules.

"Tawarakko", which has a refreshing sweetness that leaves no aftertaste, comes in two varieties: "tsubuame," which has a simple taste, and "ginger," which contains squeezed shoga (ginger) juice. Both have a gentle taste and can be eaten as is or used as a secret ingredient in cooking.

The lineup of "Amenko" includes two types: the standard "Shiro" and "Kinako," which has a savory kinako (soybean flour) flavor. The texture is like a Japanese-style soft candy, so it is recommended to eat it while savoring it slowly without chewing.

Available at Tawaraya's main store and Kanazawa Hyakubangai Anto store (inside Kanazawa Station).
