SENDAI CITY JOMON SITE PARK

SENDAI CITY JOMON SITE PARK was established to preserve and utilize remnants of the Jomon Period settlement discovered at Yamada-Kaminodai ancient ruins.
The Yamada-Kaminodai ancient ruins is a settlement dating back to the end of the Middle Jomon Period, approximately 4,000 years ago, where 38 pit houses and 320 clay pits were found.

The open-air exhibition, Jomon Mura (village) Zone, includes three reconstructed pit houses, a storage pit for nuts, a pit for catching animals, and other displays that show the structure of the mura (village). In the plaza zone, chestnuts, konara oaks, horse chestnuts, and other trees have been planted for the purpose of restoring the forest that existed during that period. There is also a Jomon field and a sample trellis of vine plants, allowing visitors to learn about the use of plants in the Jomon period.

The museum is well known as a place where visitors can learn about the wisdom and skills of the Jomon people through hands-on experiences such as making Magatama, Jomon earthenware, and fire-making. Earthenware and stoneware excavated from the Yamada-Kaminodai historic ruins are displayed in the facility.
