One of Three Great Views of Japan along with Kyoto’s Amanohashidate and Hiroshima’s Miyajima. The grand horizon of the Pacific Ocean and large and small 260 verdant islands have been attracting many visitors since the Heian Period.

The Four views of Matsushima at the east, west, north and south spots offer the best sceneries - the view from Otakamori on the east of Matsushima Bay, from the top of Mt. Tomiyama, from Mt. Tamon at the northern edge of Shichigahama Town, and from Ogitani behind Mt. Sokan.

Not only during the day, but also at sunset and sunrise, there is no word to describe the beauty here. Cherry blossoms in spring, fresh green in summer, fall colors and winter snowscape - the expressions in changing seasons never stop alluring hearts. Matsushima Bay is calm and protected from the outer ocean, blessed with abundant seafood. Though small in size, the oyster and conger eel are so tasty that many restaurants serve them.

  • The clear waters, lush pine forests, and stunning islands of Matsushima are so refreshing. Every time I walk by the sea, I feel the power of nature and the vibrancy of life. It’s truly mesmerizing.

Daytime or evening—Matsushima is stunning at any time! No matter the season or hour, it's always beautiful! 🥰

This popular boat tour won the Gold Award from the Japan Tourism Agency in 2020. The view from the water is totally different from what you see on land—open, breezy, and super exciting. You really get that sense of adventure! Riding in a deep green boat with an orange life jacket, cruising through the amazing panorama, was such a moving experience. Highly recommended!

Matsushima is one of Japan's Three Great Views and a top sightseeing spot, especially popular with older visitors. The area is made up of 260 unique rocks and islands all connected together.
We took a sightseeing boat around Matsushima Bay and then visited Zuiganji Temple, which is a designated national treasure.
I'm really impressed by how well Japan preserves its historical sites—it's one of the reasons I love traveling here! 👍❤️

  • With 260 islands of all sizes in the bay, it's no wonder this is considered one of Japan's top three scenic spots. Taking a boat tour is definitely the best way to enjoy the beautiful views. The oysters here are huge, plump, and super fresh—definitely a local specialty.
