National Film Archive of JAPAN
The National Film Archive holds special screenings and exhibitions of films.
It is the only national film institution in Japan that preserves, researches, and releases films to the public, and as of March 2022, has over 85,000 films in its collection. The main facility, the Kyobashi Main Building, houses two screening halls, an exhibition room, and a library. There, various activities are conducted as a base for passing on films and film culture to the future.
The screening halls on the first and second basement floors of the Kyobashi Main Building are constantly hosting feature screenings curated on a variety of themes, including director, actor, country of production, and genre. Depending on the project, a talk event with guests may be held after the film screening. The latest screening information is available on the official website.
In the exhibition room on the 7th floor, movie posters, movie equipment, and artifacts of prominent film industry figures are on display. In addition to the permanent exhibits, special exhibitions with various approaches are also held. 4F also houses a library where visitors can browse through film books from Japan and abroad.
