Mt. Ishizuchi is known for the mountain worship as one of Japan’s Seven Holy Mountains. Mt. Ishizuchi is the collective name of Mt. Tengu, the highest in western Japan, Misen where Ishizuchi Shrine stands on top, and a series of mountains in the South Peak. There are different trails for veteran climbers, hikers, and beginners.

If you hike from Saijo City, ride the Ishizuchi Mountain Ropeway. Get on at Shimodani Station at the foot of the mountain, 455m above sea level, and enjoy the 8-minute skywalk. The ropeway easily lifts you over the sharp cliffs. The dynamic nature view is impressive. When you get off at the Sanchojoju Staion on top at 1,300m above sea level, you may be surprised how temperatures drop. There are trails and observation decks which alone are worth coming to see. If you want to aim to the mountain top, the main route has been used as the approach to the shrine since ancient days, and you will not get lost.

In spring, Ishizuchi cherry blossoms and rhododendron, In summer, events such as the big festival of mountain opening, from fall to winter, autumn colors and opening of ski slopes - with each visit, you will be greeted with different scenes.
