Last update :

Tenjin area is located in Fukuoka City Chuo-ward, Kyushu’s largest downtown district. Going through the street is Watanabe Street, and to the north, Showa street. To the south is Tenjin Chikagai, an underground street, 600m in length running under Kokutai Street. There are 12 districts, with 150 shops such as apparel, gourmet food, sundries, and books.

Inspired by 19th century European designs, the street is filled to the brim with stone pavement, and arabesque-patterned ceilings. From the first to sixth district are central-north European inspired designs featuring stained glass and mechanical clocks. From the seventh to twelfth district is inspired by South European streets, with light from the ground. This street has dim lighting, yet each shop is brightly lit. This is because the street has the concept of a “theater”. Though unique in concept, it creates a comforting atmosphere, loved by many.

Visitors can enjoy shopping and gourmet food. Since the street is connected to Tenjin Station and Tenjin-Minami station, as well as Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station and Nishitetsu Tenjin Bus Center, it is perfect as a main hub for transportation.
