Mugenkyo Ferry

Navigate the gorge of the Tadami River in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture by ferry for an approximately 45-minute tour. This boat revives the tourist use of the ones that were originally used to cross to the other shore from Kanayama Town's Mifuke settlement, which was once abandoned.

The name "Mugenkyo" or "Misty Gorge" is believed to have been derived from the enchanting beauty of the valley enveloped in river fog during the early morning and evening in summer. Watching the ferry move slowly through the mist is truly a sight to behold. It's said that this river mist typically appears in the early morning or dusk from June to August, making it an opportune time to visit.

While the leisurely cruise amidst lush nature is refreshing in itself, the plan that includes a stroll allows visitors to view the legacies of the abandoned village. Landmarks like the Mugenkyo Jizo statue built in Showa 19 (1944) and the Kannon Hall constructed around the time of the birth of the Mifuke settlement are highlighted by the boatman during the tour. Due to the location’s history of escaping repeated calamities, it's recently gaining attention as a power spot, making it a must-visit.
