The name "Onigiri no Arinko" comes from the store’s humble beginnings—a tiny 3-tsubo (approx. 10 sqm) shop where staff bustled around like little ants ("arinko" in Japanese). Founded with the idea of offering onigiri as a quick and casual fast-food option, this specialty shop has grown into a popular chain with multiple locations, primarily in Sapporo.
What makes Arinko’s onigiri special is that each rice ball is hand-shaped, without using a mold. Made fresh to order, they are warm, fluffy, and full of homemade goodness.
Customers can choose between regular and jumbo sizes, with over 15 different fillings, from classic plum and salmon to the most popular "cheese katsuo" (cheese & bonito flakes).
To complement the onigiri, the shop also offers tonjiru (pork miso soup), miso soup, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), and Hokkaido-style fried chicken "zangi", making for a satisfying meal.
