Chobo no Sato (Scenic Village)

This 1000m-high lookout spot offers a spectacular view of the Northern Alps as they tower from south to north. Feast your eyes in a grand panorama from Jigadake in Ono City, Nagano Prefecture in the south, to Myojosan in Itoigawa City, Niigata Prefecture in the north. If the weather is just right, a sea of clouds will roll in the valleys below, billowing at your feet like a mystic landscape. Around the area you’ll even find gorgeous blooms all year around, like cherry blossoms and daffodils in spring.

The remote location of this mountain escape makes a car the best option for getting here. From National Route 148, cross the Miyamoto Bridge and drive about 5km up the mountain road. The road is narrow and has many switchbacks, so drive slowly and be careful of oncoming vehicles. Please note that the road becomes impassable in winter.

From late April to early November, the campsite is open, offering visitors with the everchanging views of morning glow, sunset, and starry sky depending on when you visit. The grounds offer a number of plans including cabins, wooden decks, and permanent tents, so you can spend your time away in the great outdoors just as you like it.
