Dogo Onsen, often referred to as Japan's oldest hot spring, is even mentioned in the "Nihon Shoki." The iconic "Dogo Onsen Honkan," designated as an important cultural property, has a sister facility called "Dogo Onsen Tsubaki no Yu." This public bathhouse is beloved by tourists and locals alike, serving as a place of relaxation and community.

Built in 1953, Tsubaki no Yu is located in the heart of the Dogo shopping street, just a three-minute walk from the Honkan. After renovations, it reopened in 2017. Unlike the wooden structure of the Honkan, Tsubaki no Yu features a distinct L-shaped warehouse-style building with white walls. The bathhouse, like the Honkan, uses granite in its baths. The high ceilings and spacious bath area house a hot spring cauldron, allowing visitors to enjoy the luxurious, natural hot spring water, which flows directly from the source without heating or dilution.

Nearby is the "Dogo Onsen Annex Asuka no Yu," which opened in 2017, blending traditional Ehime crafts with cutting-edge art. Exploring all three baths—Honkan, Tsubaki no Yu, and Asuka no Yu—is highly recommended.
