Edosei Chinatown Main Store

Always bustling with crowds and often drawing long lines on weekends, Edosei in Yokohama Chinatown has been loved for generations. Established as a butcher shop in the Meiji era, the store has over 130 years of history and is now best known as a specialty shop for Chinese steamed buns.

Its signature pork bun is made with carefully selected ingredients, including high-quality domestic pork, fresh vegetables, and even seafood such as shrimp and snow crab. The juicy filling is wrapped in a soft, fluffy dough, resulting in a hearty bun that’s both flavorful and satisfying. At 11 cm in diameter and weighing 250 g, it’s about twice the size of a standard convenience-store bun-impressively big and filling.
Beyond the classic pork bun, the shop offers a wide variety of other steamed buns, including shrimp chili buns and braised pork belly buns. Around 10 different varieties are available at any given time, including seasonal specials, all served piping hot straight from the steamer.

The shop also sells plenty of take-out items perfect for enjoying while exploring Chinatown, such as juicy soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and Taiwan’s famous oversized fried chicken (da jipa). For those who want to enjoy the flavors at home, there’s also a selection of frozen foods like shumai and gyoza.
