Shogoin Yatsuhashi Sohonten "Nama Yatsuhashi"

A quintessential Kyoto souvenir, Yatsuhashi from the renowned Shogoin Yatsuhashi Sohonten is long-loved tasty treat. While the traditional baked Yatsuhashi and the anko-filled "Hijiri" Yatsuhashi are well-known, the "Nama Yatsuhashi”, variety actually predates the famed "Hijiri" version and remains a fan favorite to this day.

Unlike the koto-shaped baked Yatsuhashi, Nama Yatsuhashi is straight and flat. Made from simple ingredients like rice flour, sugar, and cinnamon, it offers a soft, chewy texture unique to rice flour and a refined cinnamon flavor that pairs perfectly with tea. Available in packages of 40 original Nama Yatsuhashi, it also comes in assortments with matcha-flavored pieces. The packaging changes seasonally with new designs like sakura in spring, goldfish and wind chimes in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snow and rabbits in winter for an extra swirl of style.
