Kansagu (Ukiki Shrine)
A mystical shrine located by the lakeside, dedicated to Princess Tatsuko from the legend of Tatsuko-hime.
Kansagu, also known as Ukiki Shrine, is a mystical shrine situated by the lakeside, dedicated to Princess Tatsuko from the legend of Tatsuko-hime. The shrine was named in 1769 by Masuto Soshu, a haiku poet and samurai of the Akita domain. It is called Ukiki Shrine because it enshrines a large driftwood (floating tree) that washed ashore.
The shrine appears to float on the lake when viewed from a distance, creating a magical and serene scene. The contrast of the white wooden shrine, the clear blue waters of the lake, and the surrounding lush greenery captivates all who see it.
The deity enshrined here is Tatsuko, from the "Legend of Princess Tatsuko" associated with Lake Tazawa. The shrine is also known as a god of matchmaking, attracting many visitors seeking blessings for their relationships. Visitors can receive amulets for matchmaking, Tatsuko amulets, and Goshuin (shrine stamps). Nearby, there is a statue of Tatsuko that is also worth visiting.
Next to the shrine, fish food is sold, and feeding the fish in the lake, which attracts a large number of "ugui" fish, has become a popular activity.
