Haradaki, Aizu Higashiyama Onsen
A long-established ryokan with its own hot spring source and over 100 years of history.
Slip into Yumoto, Higashiyama-machi—Aizuwakamatsu’s tucked-away retreat—and you’ll find this ryokan, drawing from its own natural hot spring source. Founded in 1924, it’s a long-established inn with over 100 years of history. Higashiyama Onsen is a hot spring area with Approx. 1,300 years of history, but it’s rare to find an inn where you can enjoy 100% free-flowing, unaltered source water.
On the mountain-surrounded grounds, the natural waterfall “Harataki,” which inspired the inn’s name, flows close by. From the open-air baths, you can take in the waterfall scenery, the sound of the stream, and the refreshing river breeze.
Just like its hot springs, another highlight here is the wide range of dishes made with seasonal ingredients. At the on-site dining venue, Dining Takigawa, dinner features “Otemae Ryori,” with several items—such as appetizers, sashimi, and hot pot—set at your table in advance, along with a “Half Buffet” where you can sample small portions of your favorite menu items.
A two-minute walk from the ryokan is “Mizube no Dining Kawadoko,” where you can also dine outdoors. With the natural breeze off the water and the fresh air around you, you can savor the “Kawadoko Limited Kaiseki Set,” then enjoy a natural hot spring footbath after your meal.
Day-use hot springs and day-use lunch are also available, so you can enjoy Higashiyama Onsen even if you’re not staying overnight.
