Yuze Onsenkyo
A hot spring village named after the springs that emerged along the river rapids of Kita-Ouu’s mountain streams.
Located in the scenic Yuze Gorge, Yuze Onsenkyo is a cozy hot spring village situated midway between the popular Kita-Ouu attractions of Lake Towada and Hachimantai. The name "Yuze" is said to come from the springs that emerged from the rapids of the Yoneshiro River. Known for its high mineral content, the spring water here is regarded as a "beauty-enhancing" bath, reputed to improve skin hydration with each soak. There are even skincare products available using this local spring water.
The area’s natural beauty is stunning throughout the year, with cherry blossoms in spring, vibrant green foliage in early summer, and breathtaking autumn colors. Yuze Onsenkyo has around three lodging options, some offering views of Yuze Gorge, providing a relaxing retreat with scenic and rejuvenating experiences.
The village is also a popular base for trekking, attracting many visitors for its nature trails. A 4.6 km walking path from Yuze Onsenkyo to Azukizawa in Hachimantai (with some sections temporarily closed) is ideal for a trip that combines trekking through the gorge with a refreshing soak in the hot springs.
