Shaga no Sato Yumeya
An exquisite retreat where you can indulge in Michelin-recognized cuisine and soothing hot springs.
Nestled in Iwamuro Onsen, Niigata’s hidden hot spring retreat, this historic inn opened in 1988 as the sister property of the long-established Fujiya Ryokan, which has been welcoming guests since the early Meiji era. Built in the refined sukiya style, the main building houses 10 guest rooms, complemented by a private detached villa, bringing the total to just 11 exclusive rooms that create a truly luxurious atmosphere.
Each room has its own unique character, blending spacious layouts with traditional Japanese design. The setting offers both comfort and elegance, providing guests with a sense of calm and relaxation. The hanare-sha (detached villa) is especially appealing for those who value privacy, featuring its own open-air bath for an indulgent, private soak.
One of the inn’s highlights is its cuisine, which has been recognized by the Michelin Guide. Carefully prepared with fresh, seasonal local ingredients, each dish delights not only the palate but also the eyes with its artful presentation. Menus typically feature beautifully arranged appetizers made with local vegetables, generous platters of seasonal seafood sashimi, charcoal-grilled Niigata Wagyu beef, and rice made from specially cultivated Koshihikari grown in Niigata. Every dish embodies craftsmanship and guarantees satisfaction even for discerning gourmets.
The hot springs are another treasure. The natural waters are said to leave the skin smooth while warming the body to its core. From the open-air baths, guests can enjoy views of the surrounding nature, soaking away the weariness of travel in a serene and rejuvenating setting.
