Unkai is located on a hill in Shibatouge at an altitude of 380 meters. The spacious outdoor onsen called Unkai no Yu offers a fantastic open view to the Uonuma mountain range, which includes mountains; Hakkaisan, Makihatayama, Naebasan.

Especially on days when a sea of clouds forms above, a truly magical atmosphere surrounds the hotel. The sea of clouds appears only when the right natural conditions meet. It is a surprise gift of nature that occurs when the chilled air flows over the Shibumi River in the valley in Tokamachi City. The best season to enjoy this natural wonder is early morning in September and October, when the temperature difference between morning and evening is extreme. Enjoy the amazing view from a traditional Japanese room.

Unkai is also proud of their Kaiseki cuisine which carefully uses fresh ingredients sourced from Tokamachi City and Tsunan town. Rice is, of course, the famous Koshihikari brand from Minami Uonuma.
