Matsuzakaya Honten
Relax in a warm, traditional inn surrounded by the beauty of hot springs and exquisite cuisine.
Founded in 1662, this historic inn has welcomed many literary figures and prominent individuals, including Takayoshi Kido and Takamori Saigo, during the Meiji era, continuing its rich legacy. Set on a spacious 4,000 tsubo (approximately 13,200 square meters) of land, the inn features five distinct buildings, 11 guest rooms with open-air baths, and five private baths arranged comfortably.
The inn boasts its own natural hot spring source, with an abundant flow of 200 liters per minute. This unique spring combines three types of renowned beautifying waters: "sulfur spring," "sulfate spring," and "bicarbonate spring," providing a rare and exceptional bathing experience. Guests can enjoy 100% pure hot spring water, without any dilution, heating, or circulation. In 2023, the large public bath underwent significant renovations, featuring a modern wooden design that blends with the natural surroundings of Hakone, along with dedicated changing lockers that can accommodate slippers.
For dinner, the "Shukuba Kaiseki" offers a taste of the dishes served to travelers passing through the Hakone area, using seasonal ingredients for a nourishing and comforting experience. Breakfast features the "Traveler's Breakfast," a modern interpretation of traditional inn fare using contemporary ingredients.
