Kokuryo Shrine
Millenium Wisteria, the ancient tree of majesty awaits! See it during next full bloom.
Kokuryo Shrine is located about a 5-minute walk from Keio Line's Fuda Station. Known for blessings related to warding off evil, matchmaking and safe childbirth, the shrine’s founding date is unknown. As record’s show, the shrine relocated to its current site around 1640, coined with its current name in 1963.
The shrine’s highlight is the ancient wisteria tree within its grounds, believed to be around 400 to 500 years old. Each year, from mid-April to early May, the wisteria reaches full bloom, creating a breathtaking display of pale purple flowers. This tree, called the Millennium Wisteria, is celebrated during the Kokuryo Millennium Wisteria Festival and the full calendar of programmed events. See as lofted wisteria blossoms spread and sprawl like a budded ceiling above the shrine during the must-see peak season.
