Founded in 1596 by Hiden-in, the mother of Toyotomi Hidetsugu, the site also preserves stone walls from Hachimanyama Castle, built by Hidetsugu. An observation deck offers unbroken views of expansive Lake Biwa, the nostalgic streets of the old castle town, and the majestic panorama of the Hira mountain range.
