La Collina Omihachiman is the flagship store of the Taneya Group, a national brand originating from Omi Hachiman. In addition to the main store selling Japanese and Western confectioneries, cafes, castella stores, food courts, bakeries, and more, create a magnificent world of Taneya on the hills leading up from Hachimanyama.
With its roof covered with green grass, the main store is the most eye-catching part of the building. It is a symbolic zone created by architect and architectural historian Terunobu Fujimori, collaborating with Taneya staff, contractors, and local students. The first floor is a spacious atrium lined with a Japanese and Western confectionery section. In the Japanese confectionery section, all Taneya products are available. The Western confectionary section has a glass-walled workshop where you can watch the craftsmen baking the Baumkuchen right in front of you. On the second floor, there is a cafe where you can enjoy freshly baked Baumkuchen in an open space.
The castella store will leave you a strong impression with its unique design, built using over 100 chestnut trees. You can taste the castella made by the third-generation owner with pride, as well as the store's limited-edition "Yahata Castella," with delicious fluffy dough.
You cannot miss the Food Garage, with its vast semi-circular garage making a solid presence. As a place where the Taneya Group takes on new challenges and disseminates information, it brings together various facilities, including a gift store, food court, and kitchen car. You will be able to find delicacies that you can only taste here.
