Kamakiri Udon
A popular udon restaurant known for its long lines, offering not only delicious udon but also a great selection of side dishes and snacks to pair with drinks.
A popular udon restaurant in Fukuoka that earned a Michelin Plate, Kamakiri Udon opened in 2013 as the second location of the renowned “Niwakaya Chosuke,” known as a pioneer of the “udon izakaya” concept—where diners enjoy drinks and snacks before finishing with a comforting bowl of udon.
The restaurant’s homemade noodles, crafted in an in-house noodle room, are made with Itoshima-grown wheat from Fukuoka, giving them a satisfyingly chewy texture. The broth is meticulously prepared using premium kelp and bonito flakes, showcasing their commitment to quality.
The menu features over 20 varieties of udon, from local favorites like gobo-ten udon (with fried burdock) to mentaiko kama-tama and seasonal specials. Additional toppings like wakame, onsen egg, or tororo kombu let diners customize their bowl. In summer, the restaurant’s signature sudachi kake udon—served cold and refreshing—is a must-try. Rice bowls flavored with their signature broth are also available.
True to its “udon izakaya” roots, the menu offers plenty of snacks and small dishes that pair perfectly with sake, including rare finds like shiokara and iburigakko. Their unique “udon-mae” menu lets you enjoy light bites before your noodles arrive. Open continuously from 11:30am into the evening, it’s also a great spot for daytime drinking.
