TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY
A futuristic urban complex set to grand open in spring 2026, blending innovation, culture, and nature in one visionary development.
Developed by JR East, Takanawa Gateway City is a bold urban redevelopment project transforming a former train yard into a 9.5-hectare next-generation smart city. Centered around the newly completed Takanawa Gateway Station, the complex is slated for four high-rise towers and a low-rise cultural facility, bringing together commercial spaces, hotels, offices, residences, a multipurpose cultural center, and an international conference hall.
Guided by the concept of a "Global Gateway," the project envisions a city that serves as a living lab—"an experimental space for enriching life over the next 100 years"—fostering innovation in both business and culture.
On March 27, 2025, the city officially began its phased opening. Takanawa Gateway Station now features a welcoming new atmosphere with green open spaces like Eki Park and a curated selection of dining spots. The area’s landmark building, THE LINKPILLAR 1, houses the upcoming Newoman Takanawa, set to host around 180 shops upon full rollout.
This smart city is also powered by advanced technology: security, cleaning, and delivery robots are already active, and self-driving mobility vehicles will help people easily navigate the neighborhood.
Leading up to its grand opening in spring 2026, the area currently hosts a range of events that showcase the future of urban living. Don’t miss your chance to witness the evolution of Tokyo’s city of the future—taking shape before your very eyes.
