Sorakuen Garden

Located in the heart of Kobe yet wrapped in tranquil greenery, Sorakuen is a Japanese garden that offers an atmosphere of deep serenity. Originally built in the late Meiji era as the garden of Taijiro Kodera’s residence, it was donated to the city after World War II and opened to the public. Designed as a traditional pond-strolling garden, it features waterfalls, streams, and gently shaped hills, all arranged to harmonize with the natural landscape.

Kushida Shrine

This head shrine is said to have been built in the 8th century. Residents in Hakata call it “Okushida san.” Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival declares the arrival of summer to the City of Hakata in July, and is dedicated to this shrine.

Yanagawa Tachibana-tei Ohana

The city of Yanagawa sits in the southern area of Fukuoka Prefecture. The land was ruled by the Tachibana family since Muneshige Tachibana moved into the castle in 1587, as appointed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In the mid-Edo period, Ohana was added as a private residence by the 5th generation feudal lord, Sadayoshi Tachibana.

Yama-Dera (Hōjusan Risshakuji Temple)

This mountain temple, of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, is properly known as “Hōjusan Risshakuji Temple.” It is a historical place, founded in 860 by Jikaku Daishi. It is believed that, with each step you take up the 1015 stone steps, your worldly desires are purged. Furthermore, it has also been worshipped since ancient times as a temple that helps to cut out bad relationships and forge good bonds.
